For centuries, the mundane life in the remote valleys of Mai Chau continues to be carried out. Minority hill tribes including the H’mong, Dao, Thai and Muong continue to inhabit the region’s picturesque valleys. The largest town in the vicinity is Hoa Binh (“Peace”) which is located 75km northwest of Hanoi – the country’s capital. This town is also close (5km) to East Asia’s largest hydroelectric projects on the Song Da (“Black River”) valley.
