Introduction

With its Mekong River location and relatively close proximity to Phnom Penh and Vietnam, the third largest province of Cambodia of Kampong Cham has always been an important trade and transportation hub. The highway from Phnom Penh is in excellent condition resulting in ease of accessibility of less than two hours either by road or by the bullet boats (these are the two primary modes of transportation between towns along the Mekong River). Both options offer nice rides, with views of the rural countryside and river area, depending on the trip direction. The town itself is quaint and charming with its bustling morning river scene and wide boulevard streets along the river. Kampong Cham include a mixture of old and modern structures as new temples are being built in and around old ruins. There are a few worthwhile attractions nearby, and its connections to Kratie, Mondulkiri, Rattanakiri and Stung Treng Provinces make it a suitable linking point.
